BUILDSPACE: Urban Flood Analysis & Resilience Service

In the summer of 2023, Slovenia was severely impacted by flooding. No fewer than 180 of the 212 Slovenian municipalities were affected, with damages estimated at 7 billion euros. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident. Severe floods are occurring more frequently due to climate disruption. As a mapping expert and partner, Nazka is developing a new application within the European Horizon 2020 project, BUILDSPACE. We are creating this in collaboration with the Slovenian project partner IMZI, who specializes in flood simulations. In this 'Urban Flood Analysis & Resilience Service,' users can upload and visualize flood scenarios on the map. Users can simulate the exact (monetary) damage for specific areas under different flooding scenarios. We have built in the ability to calculate damages for both buildings and based on various land use classes. Users can save results and compare them interactively in the application. Thanks to the use of the Urban Atlas cover, this application is also deployable across all of Europe!
