ENHANCE applies the One Health approach to protect vulnerable coastal ecosystems

ENHANCE is a Horizon Europe project focusing on coastal resilience. Coastal zones in Europe host over 45% of the population and are under immense pressure from climate change and human activities. One Health is an integrated approach that recognizes that the health of people, animals, and the environment are interconnected and interdependent. ENHANCE aims to leverage this One Health approach, combining AI technologies, Copernicus satellite imagery, and citizen science. The project will provide coastal stakeholders with a user-friendly toolkit to address human, animal, and environmental health challenges together in a holistic way. Alerts help users make decisions about coastal health problems, such as for example "where it is safe to swim". Dashboards will be customized for different stakeholders, from surfers and divers to coastal managers, researchers, and scientists. Coastal areas are important locations for different activities, ranging from fish farming to tourism activities and water sports. Nazka helps to visualize and map this crucial but complicated One Health information in an understandable way to better inform different coastal stakeholders.
