Nazka is a partner in the H2020 project 'BUILDSPACE'

On 6 and 7 February 2023, a project manager from Nazka traveled to a surprisingly snowy and cold Athens to participate in the kick-off meeting of BUILDSPACE in the offices of SingularLogic. With snow on the Acropolis, you might not say it, but the effects of climate change are very present in European cities. This climate change causes new and unknown challenges for city administrators. How can we prevent cities from being unbearably hot in the summer or dangerous floods hitting densely populated areas? Together with the other BUILDSPACE partners, we believe that a part of the solution lies in the building stock:

• What if we could monitor and optimize the energy efficiency of buildings so that they do not lose heat in the winter and coolness in the summer?
• What if we could rebuild buildings with other materials so that they would reflect more heat?
• What if we would install green roofs to mitigate water runoff?

Hence, with BUILDSPACE, we are building a platform that can be used for buildings and cities. The solutions are within reach; we just need to make them accessible! Via drone imagery, VR analyses, digital twins, Copernicus data, and so much more, BUILDSPACE will provide these solutions and make them tangible.

Such a wide range of industries and innovations needs a lot of expertise. With 14 partners from 8 European countries, such as SMEs, research institutions, and universities, BUILDSPACE has this expertise. Nazka Mapps was asked as a BUILDSPACE partner due to its knowledge of remote sensing, GIS data, and web development. Of course, this project is closely related to our core values as we can make again some 'Mapps That Matter'!
