Freely available data for wind power generation anywhere in the world.

The Global Wind Atlas supports wind power development during the exploration and preliminary wind resource assessment phases prior to the installation of meteorology measurement stations on site. It facilitates online queries and provides freely downloadable datasets based on the latest input data and modeling methodologies. Users can additionally download high-resolution maps showing global, regional, and country wind resource potential.

nazka mapps was selected by the  Technical University of Denmark and the World Bank Group to re imagine the first version of the Global Wind Atlas. Focused on the end-user experience, nazka brought in a new logic to visualize 10 different map layers in combination with location-based plotted data. The map combines information collected from DTU's wind servers, energydata.info, nazka's own database of global administrative areas and open data layers. A smart design allows to easily shift between different wind speed and power density heights. Users can create customized areas which can be saved in their local browser environment and revisited at later times. Saved and pre-defined areas can be shared with other users.

This Global Wind Atlas is the product of a partnership between the Department of Wind Energy at the Technical University of Denmark and the World Bank Group (consisting of The World Bank and the International Finance Corporation, or IFC). It is part of the global Energy Sector Management Assistance Program initiative on Renewable Energy Resource Mapping that includes biomass, small hydropower, solar and wind. It builds on an ongoing commitment from DTU Wind Energy to disseminate data and science on wind resources to the international community.

The application will be further expanded and adapted with new data and applications in 2018 and 2019.
